Political differences must not hinder Katsina’s progress — Gov Radda

-

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has called on political stakeholders across the state to rise above partisan differences, embrace returning members and work collectively to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Katsina.

Gov Radda made the call on Friday when he received former Secretary to the Katsina State Government Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa alongside members of his political structure from the 34 local government areas.

The governor described the gathering as a demonstration that political differences could be managed through dialogue, reconciliation and mutual understanding, stressing that disagreements should not prevent individuals from working together for the broader interests of the state.

Radda urged APC local government chairmen, members of the State Executive Council, senior government officials, party leaders and other stakeholders to take responsibility for accommodating the returning members and provide them with an enabling environment to contribute meaningfully to the party and the development of Katsina.

He said political participation should not be defined by confrontation, urging stakeholders to recognise that people could hold different political positions while maintaining mutual respect and cooperating on issues affecting the state. He further appealed to party leaders to avoid unnecessary disputes over political responsibilities, noting that individuals have different political journeys that should be respected.

The governor commended Dr. Inuwa for mobilising his political structure across the 34 local government areas and formally presenting it to the administration, describing the development as an opportunity to strengthen political cooperation and broaden participation in the state. He also called on stakeholders to place the collective interest of Katsina above personal differences, stressing that peace and unity remain essential to sustaining development.

He also acknowledged the presence of former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, recalling the political and administrative relationships that developed among several leaders during the Masari administration. He noted that he served as Chief of Staff while Inuwa served as Secretary to the State Government, describing their shared political history as part of the state’s broader political evolution.

Earlier, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa said those present represented a political structure he and his associates had built across Katsina over several decades. He recalled that many of the members had remained with him since 1999 and had sustained their relationships through different political platforms and transitions including the Congress for Progressive Change and its subsequent merger into the All Progressives Congress.

Inuwa said the structure had maintained its grassroots connections despite changes in political circumstances adding that it currently comprised about 220 groups across Katsina. He explained that many of the groups were led by community leaders and influential representatives within their respective areas, giving the structure a broad grassroots presence.

According to him, many of the groups had expressed support for the Radda administration and resolved to align fully with the APC. He added that some members residing outside Katsina returned specifically to attend the gathering, describing their presence as a demonstration of their commitment to the political direction and renewed cooperation.

Inuwa assured the governor that the structure would support the administration, strengthen the APC, promote unity and contribute to the development of Katsina. He said the decision to return and formally present the structure was also aimed at consolidating relationships built over years of political participation.

Also speaking, Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal welcomed Inuwa and his political structure, describing the occasion as an important development for political unity in Katsina. He highlighted key interventions under the Radda administration’s Building Your Future Agenda including the recruitment of more than 10,000 teachers, upgrades to health facilities, agricultural interventions and the payment of outstanding workers’ gratuities.

Faruk said government programmes and projects had been extended across the 361 wards of the state as part of efforts to improve citizens wellbeing and strengthen grassroots development. He noted that the administration’s interventions were designed to address key needs across different sectors while expanding government presence at the community level.

Former Governor Aminu Bello Masari described Inuwa’s return and the presentation of his political structure as a significant development, characterising the occasion as an opportunity for political stakeholders to rebuild relationships and work together in the interest of Katsina. He urged politicians to embrace maturity, tolerance and peaceful engagement, stressing that political differences should not permanently divide people who share a common interest in the progress of the state.

The APC State Chairman Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa welcomed Inuwa and his political structure into the party saying their return would strengthen the party’s structures across the state. He recalled Inuwa’s longstanding involvement in Katsina politics including his participation in earlier political platforms such as the National Republican Convention and said his experience and grassroots relationships could contribute to the party’s organisational development.
