The newly appointed Honourable Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Katsina State Ministry of Higher, Technical and Vocational Education have paid a familiarisation visit to Umaru Musa Yar’adua University UMYU, in a move aimed at strengthening cooperation and improving service delivery in the higher education sector.
The visit was designed to enable the ministry’s leadership to acquaint themselves with the operations, academic programmes, administrative structures and overall performance of the university. It also provided an opportunity for interaction between government officials and the management of the institution on areas requiring attention and development.
Receiving the delegation, the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, alongside principal officers, warmly welcomed the Honourable Commissioner Adnan Nahabu, the Permanent Secretary Hajiya Safiyya Ya’u Yamel and other members of the entourage.
Speaking on behalf of the management, staff and students, Professor Muhammad described the visit as timely and significant, noting that it was the first of its kind by the Ministry of Higher, Technical and Vocational Education to the university since its establishment.
He said such engagements were necessary to promote understanding, exchange ideas and enable the ministry to provide effective supervisory guidance to institutions under its purview.
Professor Muhammad congratulated the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary on their appointments, describing them as a clear demonstration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s commitment to providing the right leadership for the education sector in Katsina State.
According to him, the governor’s decision to entrust the ministry to capable hands would ensure that higher education is administered properly, effectively and efficiently. He expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and pledged the university’s readiness to comply with all guidelines, directives and policies issued by the ministry.
The Vice Chancellor further commended the Commissioner for his responsiveness since assuming office, noting that the university had enjoyed improved communication with the ministry.
“Since your assumption of office, a number of mails sent by the university to the ministry have received prompt attention. None has remained unattended. This is highly commendable and shows commitment to addressing the challenges facing the university,” he said.
Some principal officers of the university also took turns to welcome the delegation and highlight critical areas requiring support, including infrastructure, academic development and welfare, as well as facilities needed to improve teaching and learning.
In his response, the Honourable Commissioner for Higher, Technical and Vocational Education Adnan Nahabu, described the visit as historic and development oriented, assuring the university of the ministry’s full support.He commended the warm reception accorded to him and his team by the university community and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening UMYU.
“The Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, is proud of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. He is determined to see the institution attain the highest level in academics, infrastructure and administration,” the Commissioner said. He pledged continued encouragement and collaboration with the university management to ensure steady progress and improved service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry Hajiya Safiyya Ya’u Yamel, also assured the university of the ministry’s readiness to work closely with its management to uplift higher education in the state.
She promised sustained cooperation aimed at addressing challenges, improving standards and positioning the institution for greater achievements.
