The Katsina State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has held its maiden meeting, marking a significant step toward reviving the activities of the professional body in the state. The meeting took place at the Federal Polytechnic, Daura.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the chapter, Alhaji Ibrahim Ango Cikin Gida, recalled that the new leadership was inaugurated on October 8 with a clear mandate to reposition the chapter, drive membership growth and encourage professionals who registered in other states to migrate back to the Katsina State chapter. He added that the executives were also tasked with conducting transparent elections in due course.
The chairman took members down memory lane, recounting the establishment and early activities of the chapter in the 1980s, and emphasized the need to restore its vibrancy and relevance.As part of efforts to strengthen operations, four committees were inaugurated. They are: Membership & Enforcement Committee; Educational Seminars & Workshop Committee; Media & Publicity Committee; and Resource Mobilization Committee.
After the meeting, members of the chapter embarked on courtesy visits to prominent traditional and community leaders. The first visit was to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, to seek his royal blessings and fatherly guidance.
The delegation also visited the Jakadan Daura, Alhaji Yahya Rabe, who expressed delight over their visit and encouraged the leadership to mobilize members, strengthen their capacity, and ensure effective service delivery. He further urged citizens to continue praying for lasting peace and stability in the state and the nation.
Similarly, the executives visited a veteran journalist, Alhaji Lawal Ado Daura, who offered invaluable advice on how public relations professionals can use strategic communication to drive positive change and contribute meaningfully to societal development.Fatima Sanda Kaitafskaita@gmail.com
