The Katsina State Government has begun examining the feasibility of constructing a modern light rail system to improve transportation and develop modern infrastructure across the state.

In a move to achieve this goal, the government has set up an expert committee to study the feasibility of the Light Rail system and assess the feasibility of the project.

The committee, chaired by the state Commissioner for Works, comprises representatives from key government ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the Office of the Secretary to the Government (SGS), the Urban Planning Commission, KTDMB, KSTA, and the Ministry of Lands, Environment, Works and Housing.

A statement from the state government indicated that the committee was tasked with examining the technical and financial feasibility of the project, as well as assessing how it fits into the Katsina State Development Plan 2025 to 2040.

The committee will also make recommendations to the government on the benefits and importance of the project in terms of economic growth and reducing transport bottlenecks in the state.

The government said that this initiative is part of Governor Dikko Umaru Rada’s policy of providing an efficient transport system, connecting regions and furthering the development of the state through the provision of modern infrastructure.
