The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina has formally welcomed its newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, who was inaugurated by the University Management on Tuesday, 25th November 2025.

Senator Sirika subsequently presided over the 56th Council meeting held on Thursday, 27th November 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward academic advancement and transformative growth.
During the meeting, the Pro-Chancellor pledged his commitment to working diligently with all stakeholders to uplift the university. He also met with the leadership of the four in-house unions, assuring them of loyalty, cooperation and a shared vision for sustained development.

A major highlight of the 56th Council meeting was the approval of promotions for one hundred and thirteen academic staff, effective from 1st October 2025. Nineteen staff members were elevated to the rank of Professor, twenty to Reader and thirty one to Senior Lecturer.
Similarly, seventeen staff were promoted to Lecturer I, while twenty six advanced to Lecturer II.The Council also approved the conversion and upgrading of thirty six staff across various cadres, reflecting its commitment to career development and institutional strengthening.

In a significant welfare decision, the wages of university cleaners were reviewed upward by 100 percent.The Governing Council expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, commending his effective stewardship and the steady progress recorded under his administration.
