Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, on Tuesday presented a total budget proposal of ₦897.9 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, describing it as the most participatory and people focused in the state’s history.
Presenting the Appropriation Bill, the governor said the budget, tagged “Building Your Future III,” was designed to strengthen community driven development and accelerate progress in education, health, agriculture, infrastructure and security.
Radda explained that the budget was developed through extensive ward level consultations that engaged 71,384 citizens across 316 wards and 361 communities, ensuring that public input shaped the fiscal priorities. “Every project and programme in this budget is aimed at improving the lives of our people,” he stated.
The governor announced that education received the largest allocation of ₦156.3 billion, followed by Works and Housing (₦117.1bn), Agriculture and Livestock (₦78.6bn), Health (₦67.5bn), Water Resources (₦62.8bn) and Environment (₦53.8bn). These sectors he noted, account for nearly 60 percent of the total budget, underscoring his administration’s focus on human capital and infrastructure development.
Radda also disclosed plans to establish a Secondary School Management Board to boost learning outcomes and maintain Katsina’s strong record in education. “We are investing in teachers, schools and facilities because the future of Katsina depends on an educated generation” he added.
Out of the total budget, ₦730.1 billion, representing 81.32 percent is for capital expenditure while ₦167.7 billion (18.68 percent) is for recurrent spending. The 2026 proposal represents a 29.7 percent increase over the previous year’s budget, reflecting a stronger push for capital development and fiscal balance.
Highlighting achievements under the 2025 budget, the governor noted that Katsina recorded a “bumper harvest season” through farmer focused interventions, including subsidized inputs, mechanization and irrigation support. He also said the Community Watch Corps and recruitment of 1,100 volunteers have improved local security across several communities.
Radda commended development partners such as the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, FCDO, ISDB, AFDB and other NGOs for their technical and financial support. He also appreciated civil servants and lawmakers for their continued collaboration in driving the state’s development agenda.
He urged the Assembly to expedite the passage of the budget, assuring that his administration would ensure transparency and accountability in its implementation. “We have presented a budget that reflects the people’s aspirations and deserves swift legislative action”
Responding, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly Nasir Yahaya Daura, commended the governor for a detailed and visionary presentation. He assured that the House would give the budget prompt and patriotic consideration to ensure it remains people oriented and aligned with the “Building Your Future” development plan.
